UF Religious Observances Policy

Joe Glover, Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

As the Fall 2025 semester begins, please ensure that returning faculty are reminded—and new faculty are informed—of the University of Florida’s policy regarding religious observances. UF Religious Holidays Policy

Faculty are expected to work collaboratively with students to support their ability to observe religious holidays. We encourage faculty to proactively share the policy with students and foster open communication. Students should notify instructors in advance of any conflicts with class attendance, assignments, or exams due to religious observances, and faculty should make reasonable accommodations. Faculty should also avoid scheduling major exams or academic events on dates when significant student absences are anticipated due to religious observances. Notable dates (among others) this semester include:

  • Mawlid-al-Nabi: September 4–5
  • Rosh Hashanah: September 22–24
  • Yom Kippur: October 1–2

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for supporting our students’ diverse religious practices.
