Dr. Chris Adin Named Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine

I am pleased to announce that Chris Adin has been selected as the next dean of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, effective Sept. 4, 2026.

Dr. Adin is currently the college’s executive associate dean, a position he has held since 2022, and has served as director of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges Leadership Academy since January 2025.

Dr. Adin first joined UF as an assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine from 2001 to 2006. He rejoined UF in 2018 as a professor and chair of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. From 2015 to 2018, he was an associate professor with the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and served as a faculty member at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2008 to 2015.

Dr. Adin holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Duke University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University. He was a fellow and a resident at the University of California, Davis.

His awards include Small Animal Teacher of the Year in 2024 and 2025 at UF and the Excellence in Teaching Award at Ohio State in 2015.

Dr. Adin’s 20-plus years of clinical experience as a board-certified small animal surgeon, his extensive research publication record and his passion for teaching and mentorship make him exceptionally well qualified to serve as dean.

Dean Dana Zimmel’s impactful leadership over the last 25 years, including the past seven as dean, has helped shape the college’s success and unprecedented growth, establishing a strong foundation for the future. I am deeply appreciative of her service.
