Leave Update

We are pleased to provide you with the attached Leave Update–a policy guide designed to accomplish two purposes:

1. The Leave Update is designed to explain the State University System (SUS) and the University of Florida’s extended leave of absence policy, which incorporates the requirements of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 that recently became effective. Please see Part I of this policy guide for details–as well as the “Leave at a Glance” (located in the Appendix of this policy guide) that provides summary information about available extended leaves of absence, including their relationships to the FMLA, the type of documentation required, and other important details.
2. Part II of the Leave Update seeks to provide information about additional SUS leave changes that may affect you and employees in your area.
