Update on Public Records Disposition Freeze

Will Henson, Director

The Records Management office has been working to clarify certain records disposition procedures while the state is involved in litigation with the tobacco industry. Unless an office is advised by the university General Counsel that certain of its public records are within the scope of the litigation, all records disposition by all University of Florida offices and departments may proceed as it did before the freeze was announced. This includes those records that may be destroyed without obtaining prior approval (see Rule 1B-24.010(3) F.A.C.). Public records approved for disposition prior to the freeze, but not yet physically disposed of, will still need to be resubmitted for approval prior to any further disposition.
