Departmental Y2K Readiness

Ed Poppell, Associate Vice President

The University of Florida, as many of you know, has been in preparation for the Year 2000 for a number of years. We believe that the mission critical systems for the University of Florida are near complete. We are doing extensive testing at this time and expect all systems to be ready. We want to remind all departments who may have independent systems and applications with date sensitive processes to have a contingency plan should an unforeseen failure occur. Contingency planning is the process of anticipating how and when systems may fail and developing alternate approaches to minimize negative impact on operations.

We are asking each department to develop a contingency plan for the systems or applications considered critical to the operations of your college or department. These contingency plans may be as simple as keeping an extra copy of your work or programs at another university site or having a back-up computer identified from another department.

Thank you for your cooperation and feel free to contact me if you need assistance.
