David Colburn, Interim Provost

With the University of Florida increasing its reliance on web- based information and applications, it is important that all our units transition from part-time employees and student help to permanent employees as the contacts for official UF web pages. I am asking that you designate a faculty or staff member as web manager. The web manager will serve as the primary contact for that unit’s web site(s) and will be responsible for ensuring that the pages within are in compliance with university policy. At the college and division level, web managers will be administratively responsible for the main pages of their unit and will also serve as a point of contact between the UF web administrator and the managers for each of the offices, departments, centers, etc. that fall under that college or division. Finally, to promote a sense of community and the sharing of resources, each web manager will be asked to subscribe to the Webspinners list (web-spinners@cise.ufl.edu).

Please submit the following information to Christian Conrad (cconrad@ufl.edu) by Friday, September 29, 2000:

  • Unit’s name
  • Web manager’s name
  • Web manager’s SSN
  • Technical contact’s name (If different)
  • Technical contact’s e-mail address

This information, minus the web manager’s SSN, will be accessible through a web page off of the Web Administration web site (www.webadmin.ufl.edu). The page will also list the phone number, office address and e-mail address that is displayed for the web manager in the UF Electronic Phonebook (http://search.ufl.edu:8765/#phone). This information can be updated by your unit’s phonebook coordinator. If you are not sure of your coordinator’s identity, please contact the UF Computing Help Desk at 392-HELP, helpdesk@ufl.edu.

To subscribe to the Webspinners listserv, managers can send mail to majordomo@cise.ufl.edu with the line ‘subscribe web- spinners [optional address]’ in the body. Subject lines are ignored.

If you have any questions, please contact Christian Conrad at 392-3753 or cconrad@ufl.edu.
