David Colburn, Interim Provost

Inez S. Wolins has resigned her position as director of the University of Florida’s Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art effective Sept. 22, 2000 due to family reasons. Larry David Perkins, Harn Museum curator of non-western art, has been named interim director. He assumes his new responsibilities on Sept. 23.

Perkins, MA, MFA, served as interim director of the museum for six months following the retirement of founding Director Emeritus Budd Harris Bishop. Perkins has been a curator at the Harn Museum since 1989. He served for 10 years as curator of collections and in August 1999 he was appointed curator of non-western art.

Perkins was hired as curator of the museum in April 1989, while the facility was still under construction. Perkins has been director of the Vanderbilt University Art Gallery, curator and registrar of the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery, Syracuse University and an instructor in the Graduate Program in Museum Studies at Syracuse University.

A search committee will be appointed to find a permanent director.
