Charles E. Young, President

One of the recommendations of the Task Force on Admissions I appointed during the last academic year was that we conduct a thorough examination of the climate at the University of Florida for minority students and identify ways of improving that climate. Provost David Colburn and Dr. Jim Scott, vice president for Student Affairs, have appointed the Campus Climate Committee to undertake this task.

The committee is charged with evaluating the current programs, services and overall environment for minority students on this campus; identifying the “best practices” related to minority student activities at institutions similar to UF; and developing benchmarks at UF to evaluate our progress from year to year. Over the next few months, they will gather information, analyze data and develop recommendations. A report is expected in April.

Dr. Gail Baker, vice president for Public Relations, is chair of the committee, which is comprised of faculty, students and staff representatives, including:

Dr. Carlton Davis, Distinguished Service Professor, Food and Resource Economics
Dr. Jim Button, Professor, Political Science
Dr. Ed Delgado Romero, Clinical Assistant Professor, University Counseling Center
Diana Bien-Aime, Black Student Union
Brian Dassler, Student Assistant
Javier Ley-Sos, President, Hispanic Student Association
Thad Bullard, Vice President, Student Government
Duan Johnson, Student and NAACP representative
Dr. Sheila Dickison, Associate Provost
Dr. Julie Sina, Dean of Students
Mike Powell, Assistant Director, Admissions
Lisa Diekow, Assistant Director of Housing
Bob Miller, Assistant Vice President for Administrative Affairs
