As part of the community’s hurricane preparedness plan the University of Florida will close at noon tomorrow to allow its employees the opportunity to prepare for the approaching storm expected to hit Gainesville.

Under the plan, the Southwest Recreation Center will open at noon Friday as a hurricane shelter. The Southwest Recreation Center is located at the corner of Hull Road and Bledsoe Drive across from the Harn Museum and the Center for the Performing Arts.

At that time the UF Web page also will be activated as the university’s official source of information.

All employees will receive administrative leave time for affected hours they were scheduled to work. Essential university personnel will be asked to remain on the job and also may be asked to assist in weekend efforts.
