Suncom Number Changes

John Madey, Associate Director, Computing and Networking Services

The Department of Management Services has recently notified the University that there will be a change to the use of Suncom numbers. Effective April 1, 2008, the seven-digit Suncom numbers will no longer be in use.

For example, 392-XXXX numbers for the University map to 622-XXXX for Suncom. So callers who use Suncom to call UF by dialing 622-XXXX will now need to dial the regular ten-digit number 352-392-XXXX. Similarly, when calling out to former Suncom numbers, you will now need to use the 10 digit phone number.

So, here is what you need to do as of April 1:

-Just dial 9 + 1 + Area Code + number for all long distance calls.
-Discontinue using SUNCOM prefixes for Florida agencies (UF Suncom prefixes were 602, 622, 623 and 626).
-Remove 7-digit SUNCOM numbers on published material (business cards, letterhead, web sites, etc).
