Director, Institutional Equity and Diversity

I am pleased to announce that David Lopez has accepted the position of Director of Institutional Equity and Diversity, effective October 17, 2011. In this role, David will serve as the overall Title IX coordinator for the university and chair of the President’s Council on Diversity.
David comes to UF from the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services, where he served as the Director of the Office of Affirmative Action and Civil Rights Compliance. Prior to this, he worked for the City of Madison’s Equal Opportunities Commission, where he served as a bilingual (Spanish) investigator and mediator in employment and discrimination issues.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and his master’s degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University in Madison, Wisconsin.
In addition to his other responsibilities, David will work with the Council on Diversity to coordinate activities associated with the university’s Diversity Action Plan (DAP). To assist with this important project, Dr. Kathy Long, Associate Provost, has been appointed to work with the faculty regarding activities identified in the DAP. The DAP is a living document that represents a synthesis of thoughts, ideas, and recommendations from a broad cross-section of the university community. Developed by the council, it is designed to guide and coordinate campus efforts to foster diversity in our faculty, staff, and students, which is critical to delivering excellent education and research in a global and diverse world, as well as to support and sustain a respectful and inclusive campus community.
