UF Leadership Development Programs—Applications Open!

I’m pleased to announce that applications for UF’s 2023-2024 Leadership Development programs — including Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals (ALAP), the UF Academy, and the Managers Cohort — will be accepted through May 5, 2023. These highly regarded programs will run from fall of 2023 through May 2024.

Because leadership development is essential to the effective management of a university, I hope you will encourage individuals from your respective areas to apply for one of the programs. Leadership development is also critical for strong succession planning.  These UF-specific programs offer a unique opportunity to develop leadership talent from within.

Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals

Developed in cooperation with UF’s Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate, the Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals program is intended for faculty and professionals in leadership positions to support their ongoing development. In its 15^th year, the Advanced Leadership program includes two tracks—one for academic leaders and the other for professionals (assistant director and above).

UF Academy

Entering its 20th year, the UF Academy was created for emerging leaders at our university. Designed for both exempt staff employees (up to and including the director level) and faculty, the UF Academy prepares employees for higher level responsibilities at the University of Florida. The program meets over the course of the year, with an average monthly time commitment ranging from 4 to 12 hours.

Managers Cohort

The Managers Cohort is a unique opportunity to complete the “Managing at UF” certificate with a cohort of peers. The program is designed to provide participants with insight into the skills and behaviors needed to be effective leaders. Each month, at least one of the workshops from the “Managing at UF” curriculum will be offered especially for this cohort. Participants must be managers; those who apply for the cohort option will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. These programs represent an invaluable opportunity for professional development, including exposure to UF’s highest levels of administration. Given the array of challenges within a university environment, leadership development is increasingly essential as we provide our current and future leaders with the tools needed to support the institution. Please encourage appropriate leaders in your area to submit applications to participate in the Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals, the UF Academy, or the Managers Cohort program.
