Supplement to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Graduate Assistant Raises

Rita Cowan

Enclosed is the 1996-97 supplement to the 1995-97 BOR/GAU Collective Bargaining Agreement for graduate assistants. This supplement reflects the changes that have been made to Articles 12 and 23. Article 12.2 was updated to indicate the 1995-96 academic year rather than 1994-95.

Articles 23 addresses salary increase for the 1996-97 fiscal year for graduate assistants. This year as a result of legislative action, all eligible employees (see Article 23.3) will receive a 3.0% across-the-board increase. No discretionary increases will be given this year.

Since increases are across-the-board, the Office of Academic Affairs will generate the increases for all eligible graduate assistants whose appointments have been received by the Academic Personnel Office by December 4, 1996. Before applying the raises to the personnel/payroll system, we will make available a listing of the proposed raises for the departments/units to review for accuracy. These listings will be available in the Academic Personnel Office, 29 Tigert, by 8:30 AM, December 16, 1996. Our office must then be notified by December 18, 1996 of any errors. Errors may be communicated to Kay Shipp or myself by phone (392-1251), fax (392-3464) or e-mail.

If we do not receive a response, we will assume the increases are correct.

Appointments for eligible graduate assistants which are effective prior to January 1, 1997, but are received after the December 4, 1996 deadline will require separate appointments effective January 1, 1997 to reflect the mandatory increase. Appointments effective January 1, 1997, or later are to include the increase, if the employee is eligible.
