Religious Holiday-Ramadan

This year, the religious holiday of Ramadan begins in the evening of Thursday, April 23, and ends in the evening of Saturday, May 23, and our UF final exams are scheduled from April 25-May 1, 2020.  Students observing Ramadan will fast every day from dawn to dusk.  Often, observants will gather to break the fast together and to participate in evening prayer.

Please be mindful of the potential conflict that our students observing Ramadan may have.  If a student in your class informs you of a conflict that your course’s final exam has with their Ramadan observance, please work with them, following our UF Attendance Policies (https://catalog.ufl.edu/UGRD/academic-regulations/attendance-policies/).

 As you are aware, the UF policy for excused absence for religious holidays states that you must provide the student a reasonable amount of time to make up the exam should your accommodation involve offering a make-up exam after the originally scheduled exam date.  In the case of a final exam, a reasonable amount of time is considered within 60 days of the originally scheduled exam date.  I remind you as well that any accommodation should not place the student at a disadvantage in comparison to other students taking the final exam during the originally scheduled time.
