BellSouth Service Conversion

David O’Brien, Director

Earlier this year the University of Florida entered into a new service level agreement with BellSouth, Inc. Part of this agreement will convert the University of Florida service from ESSX to Centrex at the central office switch. This massive database conversion requires a ten business day freeze period by BellSouth on all moves, adds or feature changes to all lines serving the University.

The effective freeze period will be from Thursday, July 12, 2001 to Wednesday, July 25, 2001. During this period there can be no pending orders, moves, adds, changes or feature modifications in the BellSouth system.

During this freeze interval, the Telecommunications Department can continue to provide repair service to existing BellSouth lines and can provide ongoing support for electronic key systems. Also, the Telecommunications Department can respond to work requests for estimating and installation of new telephone systems, lines and features, with the understanding that the work will not be able to be executed until after the freeze period.

Should you have any questions regarding the effect the above may have on your department, please feel free to contact John Madey, Assistant Director at 392.1146 or jmadey@ufl.edu.
