Safety and Security Reminder
Chief Everett Stevens, University Police Department
Since the Sept. 11 attacks, government and public service agencies across the nation have been working to increase and tighten security in many aspects of American life. The University of Florida and the UF Police Department have shared in this tightening, and continue to formulate plans and directives that will help to make the university community as safe as possible. As we continue our efforts we are asking that all students, faculty, and staff remain vigilant and on the look out for suspicious items and activities. Our community safety is a shared responsibility, and this concept has never been truer than during this time of national concern.
The University and the UPD ask everyone to take a moment to become familiar with your everyday and immediate work or study surroundings. Know what belongs and what does not. Most importantly, immediately report any out of the ordinary circumstances to the proper authorities by calling 911 or the UPD directly at 392-1111. Do not hesitate to report any suspicious items or activity. Also remember that the items or activities in most instances will not be criminal in nature, but it is far better to err on the side of safety.
If you should have questions regarding this information, please contact Joe Sharkey at 392-1114, at jsharkey@admin.ufl.edu, or after hours at 392-1111. You can also visit the UPD Web site at http://www.police.ufl.edu/.
