Change in Travel Agency Contracts

John P. Kruczek, University Controller

Due to recent changes in the Airline Industry resulting in the elimination of travel agency commissions, the University of Florida has chosen to modify its contract with local travel agencies. All departments are free to work with the travel agencies of the traveler’s choice. Those travel agencies that previously contracted with the University will continue to bill tickets direct to the University and accept travel requests via the TRRIPS automated travel system. In addition, they will charge a service fee for the acquisition of airline tickets, and other trip related services they provide. It is our understanding that most of the travel agencies will charge approximately $30 for each airline ticket. Travelers should take this expense into account when making travel decisions and requesting services through travel agencies.

UF business travelers are also encouraged to make airline ticket purchases direct via the internet using either the State of Florida Purchasing Card or personal credit card. Direct purchases from airlines and some travel agencies on the internet do not incur an agency service fee.

This change is effective immediately. Please contact Dorothy Haskew in University Disbursement Services if you have questions or need additional information.
