International Educator of the Year Award

Dennis C. Jett, Dean of the International Center and Director of the Transnational and Global Studies Center

In order to support UF’s strategic goal of internationalizing the campus and curriculum, the International Center has established an award to recognize outstanding international endeavors by UF faculty members.

A university-wide committee will be established to judge applicants for the award. Each college is asked is nominate a single candidate, with the exception of IFAS, CLAS and Medicine, which may nominate two because of the size of those colleges. Each college is free to develop their own review process, but nominations should be made by department chairs and endorsed by the dean. The nomination package should consist of a memo of up to three pages describing the international accomplishments of the faculty member.

Consideration will be given to the following factors:

Research – to what extent did the faculty member’s work make a significant contribution to the discipline in question and how did the international activities add to that contribution or involve international students.

Teaching – to what extent did the faculty member’s activities increase student awareness of international issues and involve them in study or research activities abroad. To what extent were courses developed and how was the curriculum affected by the international efforts.

Service – to what extent do the international activities raise UF’s profile as a major research university and what benefits are derived from them. How many people are affected and in what ways.

The winner of the award will receive $5000. One runner-up will receive $2000. The awards will be announced by President Machen on November 18, 2004 as part of International Education Week.
