Paula Varnes Fussell, Interim Vice President for Human Resource Services

Late last Friday, Governor Crist announced that he is closing all state executive offices on Friday, December 26, 2008, and Friday, January 2, 2009, to reward state employees and save utilities and management expenses. A copy of Governor Crist’s letter may be viewed online at www.hr.ufl.edu/leave/governor-dec26.pdf. Similar to Governor Crist’s announcement for the State of Florida, President Machen and the UF senior administration are pleased to announce that UF will provide an additional 8 hours of holiday leave to USPS employees to be used on Friday, December 26. USPS employees should record these hours as a holiday instead of using vacation leave.

It was previously announced that the University of Florida will observe Friday, January 2, 2009, as a holiday in addition to the holiday closing period of December 25 through January 1. Also, as in previous years, all TEAMS employees and 12-month Academic Personnel have been credited with four personal leave days to be used during the period of December 26 through December 31.

As always, UF vice presidents-working with deans, directors, and department chairs-will determine which employees are considered essential personnel and, therefore, will be required to work to support campus operations during the holiday. Please note that certain areas of campus, including medical clinics, may remain open during the holidays.

The UF administration wishes you a joyous and safe holiday season.
