University Minority Mentor Program 2009-2010

Patricia Telles-Irvin, Vice President for Student Affairs

The University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP) is currently seeking faculty and staff to serve as mentors for the 2009-2010 academic year. UMMP is designed to support first year students from underrepresented backgrounds in their transition to the University of Florida and to offer guidance as students begin to define their goals and strive for academic success.

If you are interested in learning more about the program, or want to apply to be a mentor, please go to http://www.dso.ufl.edu/multicultural/ummp.

Returning mentors, as well as new mentors, are encouraged to participate. Please keep in mind the best mentors are those who are committed to student development, who have the time to interact with students (approximately 4 hours per month for the first year), and who are knowledgeable and open to learning more about the particular needs of minority and first-generation college students on our campus. We realize that these are difficult times for many departments and we greatly appreciate the continued commitment to our students by all of our mentors.

Questions? Please contact Tamara Cohen, Director of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs, at tamararc@dso.ufl.edu or 392-1261 ext. 223.

Thank you for your participation.
