Electronic Student Support Services

Joe Glover, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

We are pleased to provide an update about the University of Florida’s student systems and the recent analysis many of you assisted with to help determine how best to meet the university’s evolving needs in the area of student-related systems.  Given that analysis, we will proceed with modernizing and streamlining electronic student support services—with the planning process beginning immediately.

The planning phase, expected to take up to 12 months, will lay out the blueprint for the project, which focuses on replacing outmoded technology and increasing its functionality. University administrators recognized the need for the upgrades after conducting a six-month analysis that included many students, faculty and staff from across the university. This evaluation found the existing system, which includes ISIS (Integrated Student Information System), meets only 78 percent of the university’s functional needs.

We considered four options to address the situation and, with President Machen’s concurrence, selected PeopleSoft’s Campus Solutions. Provost Joe Glover will provide general oversight for  this initiative. Elias Eldayrie, vice president and chief information officer, and Zina Evans, vice president for enrollment management and associate provost, will oversee the planning for, and transition to, the new system. The improvements, expected to take three to four years to fully implement, will result in a much-improved system that is expected to meet nearly all of student services requirements.

The modernization will touch many parts of campus – admissions, enrollment, advisement, student financial services, IT and of course students and faculty. For that reason, your input and participation are vital and greatly valued.  Several town hall meetings and focus groups involving participants from across campus already have been conducted. In the coming months, please watch for more communications with details on the scope, schedule and plan for this project and how you can be involved.

Thank you in advance for your support.
