November 14 – 18 has been designated as International Education Week

The University of Florida is pleased to once again participate in the celebration of International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

IEW presents an annual opportunity to highlight our many international achievements and initiatives, and to focus on our goal of being a truly global university. As we begin the third year of the “Learning without Borders” Quality Enhancement Plan, we are pleased to note that the new International Scholars Program has enrolled hundreds of students representing every one of UF’s undergraduate colleges.

UF is home to over 6,500 international students from more than 140 countries. We host over 2,200 visiting scholars every year, and more than 2,100 of our students travel abroad to more than 70 destinations annually. On any given day, year-round, UF faculty and staff from all parts of the university can be found across the globe, carrying out research, participating in conferences and workshops, or teaching.  Some 2,000 UF faculty and staff have international roots or background themselves, including many who were born and educated abroad, and who bring international dimensions to their job and into our classrooms and laboratories every day.

The UF International Center is here to help the entire campus community in your continued efforts to promote and support global learning, and to help prepare our students to excel in a globalized world. We invite and encourage all UF colleges, departments, and centers to highlight their global reach by organizing international education activities during IEW week, and we would be delighted to help publicize your events through our IEW promotional portals.

For questions related to International Education Week, please contact Mabel Cardec at mcardec@ufic.ufl.edu or 352-273-1515.  A list of activities hosted by the International Center, as well as other UF events marking IEW will be posted at http://ufic.ufl.edu/PD/IEW.html
