The University of Florida Bioinformatics Initiative is a collaborative multi-disciplinary development effort to strengthen our competitive advantage in bioinformatics. Interested faculty and staff from several colleges and departments are working to identify the bioinformatics research, education, infrastructure, and funding needs of the university and clinical enterprise; and develop possible strategies/projects to meet those needs.

A Bioinformatics Planning Retreat will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001, from 8:30a-3:30p at the Reitz Union, Room 285. Interested faculty and staff are invited to attend. For additional information and to register online to attend (by Wednesday, March 28th – seating is limited), please visit:

All UF and Shands faculty and staff are also invited to email Angie Dobberfuhl at angelad@biotech.ufl.edu if they are wish to be added to the UF Bioinformatics listserv: BIOINFORMATICS-L@lists.ufl.edu. Listserv participants will receive updates on activities and projects, and have a venue for communicating with others on campus involved in bioinformatics and related fields.

Staff support for the initiative is being provided by the ICBR and UF IAIMS. Please send your comments or questions to the listserv address above, or call 392-7237. You may also contact Shelley Schuster at schuster@biotech.ufl.edu or Mike Conlon at mconlon@ufl.edu.
