Cancellation of Salary Increase for Out-of-Unit Faculty and Staff

David R. Colburn, Provost

I want you to know that today I sent the following letter to each faculty and staff member who has been affected by the decision not to provide a salary increase to out-of-unit faculty and staff:

I write to inform you that discretionary and across-the-board salary increases for faculty and A&P employees, making more than $90,000 of annualized base pay on 10.31.2001 and who are not members of the collective bargaining unit, have been rescinded. On November 6, Governor Bush issued the following directive:

” . . . pay raises for all state employees and officials who are not members of a collective bargaining unit and whose annualized base pay exceeded $90,000 on October 31, 2001 be transferred and available for expenditure to provide additional security, such as additional National Guard deployments, for Florida’s seaports.”

The Governor’s directive is based on Executive Order 01-262 of September 11th declaring a state of emergency in Florida as a result of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.

I very much regret that this action has affected many deserving faculty, staff, and administrators. If this issue changes in the special legislative session, we will inform you immediately.
