Ed Poppell, Vice President

The University of Florida is pleased to introduce a planning process that will invite the broad campus community to develop a shared vision for the physical aspects of the campus environment. The University Vision 2040 (UV40) planning program will develop a unified, comprehensive vision for the future of the University of Florida campus. This vision will consider land use, transportation, environment, human interaction, and academic programming to recommend an optimum use of existing land and human resources. This vision will guide future decisions regarding development, infrastructure and environmental stewardship at the University of Florida. It will also serve as the foundation of the Comprehensive Master Plan update for 2005-2025.

The UV40 planning process will begin with a series of workshops in March 2003. It will continue through the summer and fall with focus groups, additional public forums, and technical analysis. Through the fall months, this campus visioning effort will be linked to the academic Strategic Plan to focus on space needs at the department and college level. It will also consider support and infrastructure needs that advance the academic goals and campus vision.

The spring workshops are presented in two sessions. Each session consists of three full-day workshops. These three workshops will follow the same agenda and be presented on different days at different locations on campus. In this way, there are multiple opportunities to attend a workshop. Please make an effort to attend and encourage others in the campus community to express their opinions on the strengths, issues, opportunities and needs related to the campus’ physical attributes. Each workshop ends in a series of “Open Forums.” These forums provide flexibility in the agenda for in-depth discussion of issues as they are identified. The afternoon agendas for the Open Forums will be developed during the morning and the previous workshops. For this reason, the afternoon agendas will be fluid and may conclude early. However, if you have a burning issue, bright idea, or pet peeve that you would like to discuss in a campus planning forum – here’s your chance. Also, the Session One workshops will include questionnaires that can be completed onsite, and will later be posted for submitting online. For additional information and to follow this process please visit www.facilities.ufl.edu/cp/visionp.htm

Registration is not required, but to help us better prepare for the workshops please RSVP to visionplan@admin.ufl.edu and indicate which workshops you plan to attend. Questions may be directed to Linda Dixon through this email address or by calling 392-8799.
