Departments may now request special pay increases (SPIs) for the following two circumstances: 1) increased job responsibilities and 2) confirmed counter offers for USPS and TEAMS employees. These increases will require approval from the respective vice president of each budgetary unit.

Supervisors may initiate special pay increases as a “Job Action” in PeopleSoft’s Workforce Administration process. All SPIs must be accompanied by an explanation/justification as well as confirmation that the appropriate vice president’s approval has been secured. This should be entered in the “More Information” text area of the “UF_HR_Approve_Job” or workflow initiation.

Special pay increases may be appropriate when an employee has been assigned increased responsibilities that do not warrant a reclassification. This requires a revised position description (PeopleSoft “Reason Code” ADU). They also may be provided when a confirmed job offer has been made (PeopleSoft “Reason Code” COF). Special pay provides an increase to the employee’s salary in her or his current position and title and may be given as long as budget is available within the department. There is no limit on the amount of the increase.
