Appointment of Interim Associate Dean of the Graduate School
Dr. Henry T. Frierson, Associate Vice President and Dean of the Graduate School
The Graduate School is pleased to announce the appointment of David Mazyck, Ph.D., as Interim Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the Office of Graduate Minority Programs, effective May 16, 2013.
Mazyck received his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University where he studied environmental engineering and fuel science. He joined the University of Florida in 2000 and presently holds the position of Professor in the College of Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and the Environment. Since joining the University of Florida, he started a Sloan Scholarship program to increase the number of underrepresented students completing the Ph.D., served as Graduate Coordinator for Environmental Engineering Sciences, and has served as an undergraduate advisor since his first semester on campus.
These experiences will combine with his natural passion for helping students excel in graduate school. Mazyck has held or currently holds very prominent positions including Technical Area Lead for NASA’s Environmental Systems Commercial Space Technology Center, Chair of the International Conference on Environmental Systems, Chair of the American Water Works Association Activated Carbon Standards Committee, and World Coal Association appointee to the United Nations to assist with the development of an International Global Treaty on Mercury. Mazyck founded Clear Carbon Innovations, LLC in 2009 (a Gainesville start-up company), and he is an avid sports car racer, earning Rookie of the Year honors and a National Championship.
