Dr. Karl Andrutis appointed Director of Animal Care Services and University Veterinarian

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Karl Andrutis as Director of Animal Care Services and University Veterinarian at the University of Florida. As Director, Dr. Andrutis will oversee Animal Care Services (ACS) which provides oversight for the care and well-being of all animals used for research, teaching, and testing at the University of Florida. ACS maintains Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accredited animal housing facilities and provides animal husbandry services, veterinary care, training, and technical services to UF researchers and instructors. This position reports to the Vice President for Research and involves administrative, regulatory and veterinary activities. As Director, Dr. Andrutis will oversee the animal care and use program at UF including facilities located in the Health Science Centers, the Institute for Food and Agricultural Science (IFAS) in Gainesville, and other off-campus sites.
Since May 2014, Dr. Andrutis has served as the Interim Director for Animal Care Services and Attending Veterinarian at UF. Karl has previously served as the Associate Director of ACS. Prior to joining UF in 2008, Dr. Andrutis served as Director and Attending Veterinarian at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Andrutis obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and his Master of Science in Toxicology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
