Appointment of Vice President for Government and Community Relations

I am pleased to inform you that, following a national search, Mark Kaplan has been selected as Vice
President for Government and Community Relations. His first day at the University of Florida will be
June 7.

Mark comes to us as a proven leader with in-depth government and community relations expertise as
well as strong experience at the state, national, and local levels. Previously, Mark served as the global
head of public affairs and chief communications officer for the Fortune 250 company, The Mosaic
Company. He served as chief of staff to Governor Jeb Bush and as the executive director of the Florida
Housing Finance Corporation. His experience further includes membership on a range of boards,
committees, and work teams in public, private, and nonprofit settings. He currently serves as chair of
the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

Mark has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a J.D. from Florida State University,
where he graduated with highest honors.
