Extension of enrollment confirmation deadline for first-year students
Dr. Mary Parker, Vice President for Enrollment Management
UF will extend its enrollment confirmation deadline for first-year students to May 15, 2024, in response to federal delays. The prior deadline was May 1.
As you may have read in news accounts, the U.S. Department of Education is implementing the FAFSA Simplification Act, which requires a significant overhaul of the processes and systems to award federal student aid. The changes aim to expand access to federal Pell Grants and make applying for federal aid easier for students and families.
The latest information the university has received from the education department suggests institutions will receive the necessary FAFSA files in mid-March, almost six months later than usual. Universities must then rush to process files and create financial aid packages, drastically reducing the time for students and families to consider the true financial cost of their college options.
The decision to support prospective students by extending the deadline was made in collaboration with university leadership and campus partners, including the Division of Student Life. We will continue to work with all campus partners to manage this extension’s impact on areas such as Preview and Housing.
Here is the media release that will be sent out later this morning. Please feel free to reach out to our office if you have further questions.
