Latin American Caribbean (LAC) Scholarship Enrollment Requirements
Mary Parker, Vice President, and Chief Enrollment Strategist
Dear Colleagues,
As part of our continued efforts to ensure clear communication about enrollment and aid policies, we wanted to share some important information regarding the Latin American Caribbean (LAC) Scholarship.
According to Florida Statute 1009.21, students who are citizens of a Latin American or Caribbean country, who receive certain scholarships from federal or state sources, and who are enrolled full-time, may be classified as temporary in-state residents for tuition purposes.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Scholarship Award: The student must receive a minimum $500 scholarship, per term, funded from the sources outlined below, with a minimum of 50% of the scholarship being funded by state or federal funds:
- State funds appropriated to universities in the General Appropriations Act
- Investment earnings as per section 1011.43, Florida Statutes
- Federally authorized scholarship funds
- Equal matching funds from private businesses, private foundations, and public agencies
2. Enrollment: The student must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student for each term they receive funding. Full-time status is defined by the Office of the University Registrar and Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Full-time enrollment requirements can be found here.
Thank you for your continued dedication to helping the University of Florida maintain compliance in this area. Your support plays a vital role in ensuring that we can offer the necessary resources and opportunities to our students. We sincerely appreciate your partnership in this effort.
