Interim dean named to Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Warren Dixon as interim dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering effective July 11.

Dr. Dixon has served as the chair of the Wertheim College’s department of mechanical and aerospace engineering since 2021. A Dean’s Leadership Professor and Distinguished Professor, he joined UF in 2004 from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Clemson University in 2000.

His research, which focuses on adaptive control techniques for autonomous systems, has been recognized with numerous best paper, early- and mid-career awards. He is a Fellow of multiple societies and is a Distinguished Member of the IEEE Control Systems Society. He served as a member of the U. S. Air Force Science Advisory Board for which his service was recognized by the Air Force Commander’s Public Service Award. In addition to a commitment to service, he has also received accolades for his mentorship, including the UF College of Engineering Doctoral Dissertation Mentoring Award and the Department of Energy Outstanding Mentor Award.

Professor Dixon will serve a one-year appointment as interim dean. Please join me in congratulating him on this key leadership position.
