Rollover Risks Associated with 15-passenger Vans CONTROLLER’S MEMORANDUM NO. 2001-11

John P. Kruczek, University Controller

On April 10, 2001 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the following advisory relative to rollover risks associated with 15-passenger vans. Please visit the following website: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/nhtsa/announce/press/index.dbm and select Consumer Advisory: Warning to Users of 15-Passenger Vans, for specific details.

Please heed the warnings issued by the NHTSA if your department utilizes any large capacity van. The number of passengers, load distribution, tire types and pressure, driver experience and sudden vehicle maneuvers have an effect on the rollover occurrence. The web page mentioned in this advisory contains information relative to vehicle rollovers.

Should you have questions or need additional information please contact Helen Sawyer, Insurance Coordinator, at 392-7256, or the Office of Environmental Health and Safety at 392-1591.
