Street Worthy Vehicles on Campus

To ensure that all motorized vehicles traveling on campus roadways are safe and well maintained, the University has implemented regulations 6C1-3.008 (14) and (15). Paragraph 3.008 (14) has been in effect for several years and requires all University licensed motor vehicles to be annually inspected and obtain a safety inspection decal. Paragraph 3.008 (15) is recently implemented and requires all University motorized vehicles not eligible to be titled or licensed by the State of Florida and which are intended to be operated on campus roads to obtain an annual street worthy inspection. Vehicles included in this category include, but are not limited to, all small utility vehicles (ATV’s, Gators, Bobcats and the like) and carts. Vehicles not intended to be operated on campus roads, such as farm tractors, lawn mowers and forklifts, are not subject to the street worthy inspection requirement. Street worthy vehicles operated on campus roads by university contractors and affiliates are required to obtain the street worthy inspection.

Street worthy vehicle inspections will be conducted by the University Motor Pool on an appointment basis. Inspections can be scheduled by calling 392-1131. To pass the inspection, street worthy vehicles must be equipped with the following items:

• Windshield
• Headlamps
• Parking Lights
• Brake Lights
• Turn Signals
• Emergency Flashers
• Horn or audible warning device
• Brakes
• Seats and seat belts
• Rear View Mirror
• Slow moving vehicle reflective triangle mounted on the rearInspections will take approximately 30 minutes and there is a $23 dollar fee. When a vehicle passes inspection a street worthy decal will be placed on the windshield, and annual inspections will be required thereafter.

  Street worthy vehicle inspections may be obtained beginning in April 2009. Please schedule them with the Motor Pool as early as possible to allow necessary vehicle modifications prior to beginning enforcement. The University Police Department will begin enforcement of the required inspection beginning July 1, 2009.

  Additional requirements for the safe operation of street worthy vehicles include:

• The operator must possess a valid driver’s license
• Street worthy vehicles may NOT operate off of the main campus bounded by U.S. 441 (13th Street), 34th Street, University Avenue and Archer Road.
