Commencement to be in O’Connell Center
Jack Battenfield, Associate Vice President
The University of Florida Summer Commencement will be held Saturday, August 8, in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center rather than at the football stadium. President John V. Lombardi announced today that the summer graduation will be held in the O’Connell Center. “The renovation is not complete, but we would rather have the ceremony in an air conditioned facility missing some new carpeting and paint than in the stadium with our students and their families exposed to the heat and the weather,” said Lombardi. “The building will be functional, comfortable and safe for this event, if not as beautiful as it will be when we complete the renovation.” Because of continuing construction, only Gate 1 and 4 will be open. Graduates are expected to be at the O’Connell Center at 7 a.m. to prepare for processional. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m.
