The Professional Development Leave program is available to employees with three years or more of service to the university, except those who are serving in tenure-earning or tenured positions. Such a leave is granted to employees to enhance their value to the university through opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experience of professional value. They are not a reward for service.

An application for a professional development leave should describe the project or work to be accomplished during the leave. Proposals should be submitted to the Department and the College Office. Those proposals recommended by the College should be forwarded to the Office of Academic Affairs by Friday, October 15, 1999.

The University selects applicants when it believes the completion of the project or work would improve the productivity of the department or the function of which the employee is a part.
