ADA:  Working with Students and Staff with Disabilities

As a service to the University community, the Committee on Persons with Disabilities is coordinating departmental ADA information sessions throughout the academic year. The information sessions are coordinated through the ADA Office in conjunction with the Dean of Students Office.

The purpose of the information sessions is to answer questions faculty and staff have about educating students with disabilities, including appropriate methods of providing accommodations.

In the past, two types of information sessions have been available (open sessions and individual departmental sessions) with the focus on open campus-wide sessions. After careful review of the service delivery, the Committee on Persons with Disabilities has suggested that the primary focus should be on getting ADA related information out to faculty within their own departmental units. We will still have open sessions but a limited number. We will be going from 8-12 open sessions to two, and the dates are listed below. Instead, we hope that you will take this opportunity to schedule a session for your college, department or office. The sessions will be individually tailored to meet your needs and time restraints.

The inter-departmental information sessions will be especially helpful to departments with a small number of staff members. All Sessions will be held in the ADA/Facilities Planning Conference Room in the Stadium, Room 226 on the following dates:

Thursday, February 22, 2001   2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, April 18, 2001   10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

*  Reservations are required and must be received a minimum of one week prior to the session.

*  Each session will be limited to 20 participants.

To arrange a date and time for an individual departmental or college information session, please contact Dr. Kenneth Osfield at the ADA Office, 232 Stadium, 392-7056, 846-1046 (TDD), Osfield@ufl.edu.

Thank you for your commitment to improving the University community’s service to students.
