Larry T. Ellis, Director, Division of Human Resources

On Thursday, October 3, the Division of Human Resources will sponsor the Safe Campus, Safe Community: Creating a Violence-Free Workplace Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Rion Ballroom of the J. Wayne Reitz Union.

Workplace violence occurs in many forms ranging from verbal abuse to threats of physical harm. This conference will teach employees commonsense techniques to deal with threats of violence, regardless of their form, and provide proactive tools to make the workplace violence-free. Because of the importance of this topic, we would like to encourage a representative from each college and division across campus to attend.

Through panel discussions and facilitated group activities, the conference will highlight:

  • Common types of violence in the workplace
  • How to recognize and report threatening behavior
  • Ways to defuse situations before the threat of violence becomes an issue
  • Tactics to use when threatened

Panelists will include representatives from the University Police Department, the UF Administration, The Crime Victim Advocate, and the Employee Assistance Program.
