Announcement of Appointment in Research and Graduate Programs

Winfred M. Phillips, Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School

Dr. Terry L. Mills has been appointed as Assistant Dean of the Graduate School with primary responsibilities for the Office of Graduate Minority Programs. Dr. Mills will divide his time between the Graduate School and the Department of Sociology where he will continue his research and teaching.

He brings a wealth of talents and experiences to the position. Dr. Mills holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and computer information planning, master’s degrees in behavioral science and sociology, and a doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Southern California. His academic specializations include family and aging, and organizational analysis. He is an active scientist and an award-winning teacher.

Prior to completing his PhD, Dr. Mills worked for 20 years in various management and administrative positions for a major manufacturer of mainframe computer systems. This experience helped sharpen his organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills. He traveled extensively in North and South America establishing highly complex database and telecommunication networks.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Mills to the Graduate School. I expect you will get to know him as he works to promote underrepresented and minority students in all colleges across campus.
