The Division of Risk Management has selected a new vendor, the CorVel Corporation, for its workers’ compensation managed care arrangement (MCA). Effective January 1, 2003, the CorVel Corporation will be responsible for processing work-related injury or illness claims and providing appropriate medical treatment for UF employees.

If a UF employee is injured at work on or after January 1, 2003, the employee should follow the same procedures as in the past-that is, report the injury to his or her supervisor immediately. The employee or supervisor will then report the injury to UF’s Workers’ Compensation (UFWC) office at 392-4940 (SC 622-4940). UFWC will complete the First Report of Injury or Illness form and assist the injured employee with selecting an authorized medical provider/facility for treatment and ensuring that all prescription drug needs are met.

If a UF employee is injured and needs medical care during hours when UFWC is closed, the employee may contact CorVel directly for assistance at 1-800-929-0107. UF employees must still contact UFWC to report their injury on the next business day.

In case of an emergency, inside or outside of Florida, injured employees should seek immediate attention at the nearest hospital. The employee should then notify his or her supervisor and UFWC immediately following treatment. Except for an emergency situation, injured employees may only use medical providers from CorVel’s Network (CorCare Network) and must have authorization prior to seeking treatment. Any treatment sought that is not pre-authorized by UFWC or CorVel may not be covered.

Visit the Division of Human Resources’ web site at http://www.hr.ufl.edu/emprelations/workers.htm for more information regarding your rights under managed care, CorVel’s grievance policy, and the procedures available to you if you are dissatisfied with the care or service you are receiving from CorVel.

Risk Management’s previous MCA provider, Humana/Protegrity, will continue to be responsible for medical case management of all claims filed between January 1, 1997, and December 31, 2002.
