Effective January 17, 2003, Postdoctoral Associates at the University of Florida were entitled to State Health and Life Insurance benefits by UF Rule, and some of the principal investigators immediately added insurance for the Postdoctoral Associates to their grants. We are now at a point in the academic calendar where we renew the contracts of the Postdoctoral staff. I ask that you move all your Adjunct Postdoctoral Associates to Postdoctoral Associate positions. This is in line with the University’s efforts to provide better support services for our faculty and staff.

One concern expressed by many of you in December and January was the need to provide a raise to enable the Postdoctoral Associate to pay the employee’s portion of health and life insurance benefits. I was unable to address that concern then because of University salary policy, but that concern can be addressed now since you can adjust the salary level of your employees with the renewal of their contracts. If you would, please move all your Adjunct Postdoctoral Associates to Postdoctoral Associates; it is time that we provide them with state health and life benefits.

The University Benefits Office will assist with the completion of all necessary enrollment forms on a timely basis for State health and life coverage and any other optional State and University benefits the employee desires. Questions should be directed to University Benefits at 392-1225.

Questions should be directed to Ms. Janet Malphurs, Academic Personnel Office, at 392-1251 or e-mail her at jmmalph@ufl.edu. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
