In recognition of the 100th anniversary celebration of the opening of the University of Florida in Gainesville/Alachua County a carillon bell performance is planned for Friday from the UF Century Tower.

The performance will begin at 10 a.m., and end at 10:05 a.m., and will coincide with other bells ringing in the City of Gainesville from churches and City Hall. This will immediately precede the Sept. 22 commemorative program, where UF, state, city and county leaders will remark about the historical significance of this moment, at the University Auditorium. This event is open to the public.

This anniversary is our chance to pause and celebrate our past, present and future together.

I hope you will join in the celebration of 100 years together with the City of Gainesville and Alachua County.
