We have recently had some confusion related to the rental of vehicles. The following information is provided for clarification.

Insurance – When renting a vehicle from AVIS on the State of Florida contract, liability/collision insurance coverage is provided in the rental cost when the vehicle is rented by an Eligible Customer for business purposes. The following guidelines govern the rental:

  • Any driver must have a valid driver’s license and is required to drive the rental vehicle in a safe, prudent manner, in accordance with State laws, and under provisions of State-owned vehicle use.
  • If the driver is also the renter of the vehicle; no age limitations.
  • Other licensed drivers are allowed to drive as long as they are at least age 25.

In order to be covered by the provided liability/collision insurance, any University of Florida employee or student driving an AVIS rental vehicle who is under the age of 25 must be the person who rented the vehicle.

When renting vehicles from a company other than AVIS, the renter should purchase liability/collision damage insurance.

Scope – The State of Florida contract rental rates (including insurance coverage) are available uniformly at any rental location operated by AVIS except in Alaska, Hawaii, New York (on weekends/holidays) and other countries.

AVIS State Contract – All University Travelers and Travel processors should review the AVIS state contract to familiarize yourself with the contract. By signing an AVIS rental agreement, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of the contract. The AVIS contract can be found at the following website:
