Chris Machen, Chair of Healthy Gators 2010 Coalition

I am pleased to announce a new campus-wide walking program sponsored by Healthy Gators 2010. The Walking Gators program is for faculty, staff and students of all fitness levels to de-stress during the work day, meet new people and get fresh air and exercise through moderate walking. I encourage you to inform all of your staff about this new program and to also be as flexible as you can with their work schedules so they can participate.

The program begins Tuesday, January 29 at 12:15 p.m. and occurs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout spring semester. Each route is approximately 20 minutes long and will be led by a route leader. Participants have the option to begin a route at its starting point at 12:15 p.m. or join the route along the way at designated pick-up points and times. Five route maps are posted on the Healthy Gators 2010 website:

-The Swamp Route
-The Century Tower Route
-The Cultural Plaza Route
-The HSC Route
-The Uphill Challenge Route

Check the website frequently for additional routes to be posted. The Walking Gators program addresses two Healthy Gators 2010 priorities for the 2007-2008 school year — reducing stress and increasing physical activity.
