We are pleased to announce the following Salary Increase Plan for faculty and staff at the University of Florida.

Merit Increase for Faculty

A 3.0 percent merit increase pool has been created for faculty. Individual merit increases should be supported by completed performance evaluations. Individual merit increases will be based upon approved departmental merit criteria recommended by the Chair and approved by the Dean. Chairs should utilize department merit criteria when assessing performance and recommending merit increases. The merit increases will be added to the base salary and will be effective September 19, 2008.

To be eligible for the 3 percent merit increase, 12-month faculty must have a hire date of June 30, 2008, or earlier, 9-month faculty must have a hire date of May 14, 2008, or earlier, and 10-month faculty must have a hire date of June 10, 2008, or earlier. Faculty must also have a current satisfactory performance evaluation.

Faculty members in the collective bargaining unit will be governed by the terms of the agreement with the union. Negotiations are currently underway with the faculty union related to 2008-2009 salary increases. Additional communication will be sent once agreement has been reached with the union.

Salary Increase for Staff

Effective September 19, 2008, all eligible staff will receive a 2 percent base increase or $600, whichever is greater. It will be applied on their September 18, 2008, salary.

To be eligible for the 2 percent base increase staff must have a hire date of June 30, 2008, or earlier. Staff must also have a current performance rating of minimally achieves or better to be eligible for the 2 percent increase. In the absence of a current performance evaluation, employees will be considered to be at the satisfactory or achieves performance level.

Part-time employees who were hired on or before the eligibility dates in the above paragraphs and meet performance criteria are eligible for the 2 percent increase on a pro-rated basis.

Staff in a collective bargaining unit will be governed by the terms of their respective contracts. Negotiations are currently underway with each union related to 2008-2009 salary increases. Additional communication will be sent once agreement has been reached with each union.

Funding

For state-funded positions, the 2 percent increase on base salary will be allocated based on filled positions only for staff using funding distributions implemented with the Budget Prep System completed by units in May.

The calculation for the 3.0 percent merit pool for faculty will be calculated based on filled positions only using the funding distributions implemented with the Budget Prep System completed by units in May.

Contract, grant, and auxiliary units are expected to fund all salary increases from existing sources.

Staff Pay Range Adjustments

TEAMS and USPS staff pay ranges will be adjusted by 2 percent at the minimum, effective September 19, 2008.

Processing of Salary Increases for Faculty and Staff

An automated process for loading the 2 percent base increase for staff has been developed. Departments will be provided a report via enterprise reporting that identifies potentially eligible employees. Each department is responsible for reviewing its list to ensure each employee is eligible to receive the increase.

An automated process also has been developed for loading the merit increases for faculty. Departments will be provided an online list of current faculty and will enter the merit increases to be allocated.
