Bernard Mair, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs

This is to inform the campus community that we are actively involved in a search for the director of the Honors Program to succeed the current director, Dr. Kevin Knudson, who will step down from that position to assume his role as Professor of Mathematics on August 16, 2014.

Review of applications begins April 25, 2014 and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should apply by submitting a curriculum vita; a list of names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of at least five references; and a letter of intent expressing the candidate’s interest in the position to: http://jobs.ufl.edu/postings/50433, where more information is available. For nominations and inquiries, please contact: Dr. Milagros Peña, Associate Dean, Liberal Arts and Sciences, by e-mail at mpena@ufl.edu.

Dr. Knudson came to us from Mississippi State University in 2009 to assume his current position and has improved the program by careful attention to academic excellence and engagement, while at the same time improving access to a broader pool of talented students. He has increased the number of scholarship opportunities and developed innovative ways to engage honors students in exciting and meaningful academic and co- curricular activities. As an example, he invited several nationally known speakers to give talks on interesting topics on campus to spark debate and inquiry among students and faculty. Under his leadership, the Honors Program has been relocated to a more central part of the campus, increasing visibility and accessibility.

Affectionately known as “Dr. K” by honors students, he is a passionate supporter of their efforts to engage fully in the academic life of the university. Please join me in offering Dr. Knudson best wishes on his return to his academic position at UF.
