This memorandum is provided to inform UF departments, faculty, and staff of changes to the financial aid application process. To apply for financial aid at the University of Florida, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. Starting with the 2017-18 financial aid application cycle, the following changes will take effect:

  • Students will be able to submit a FAFSA earlier.  Students will be able to file a 2017-18 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change.
  • Students will use earlier income information. Beginning with the 2017-18 FAFSA, students will be required to report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017-18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.
  • UF’s “On-Time” deadline is now December 15. Beginning with the 2017-18 FAFSA, UF’s “On-Time” deadline to receive the results of the 2017-18 FAFSA from the federal processor is December 15, 2016.

Although students must be accepted for enrollment at UF before they are considered for financial aid, they should apply for aid before being admitted. Students can file a 2017-18 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016. UF’s “On-Time” deadline to receive the results of the 2017-18 FAFSA from the federal processor is December 15, 2016. Students should apply well before December 15 to ensure that the federal processor has time to analyze and send the results of their FAFSA to our office. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so students should apply as early as possible to be considered for the most, and best aid. In order for UF to consider students for a financial aid package, they must be an admitted student and have met the “On-Time” deadline.
