Joseph Glover, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Marta Wayne, professor of the Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been selected as the University of Florida’s next dean of the University of Florida International Center and Associate Provost.
Dr. Wayne will assume her new role on August 5.
The dean will provide leadership in the operation of the International Center and continue to grow our international engagement in scholarship, research, and teaching. She will help with the recruitment and success of international undergraduate students as well as international graduate students. She will also help strengthen the alliance with Honors and seek increased international interaction for all of our students.
Dr. Wayne currently serves as professor of the Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She also served as the chair of the Department of Biology from 2014-2021 and is an affiliate faculty member in the Center for Latin American Studies and the Center for Gender, Sexualities and Women’s Studies. She has been a faculty member at the University of Florida since 1998. Dr. Wayne earned her Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University and her B.A. in General Biology (minor in Literature) from the University of California, San Diego.
She succeeds Dr. Leonardo Villalón, who is stepping down effective August 4.
Dr. Wayne brings to the position institutional knowledge, experience and vision that can bring an entirely new level of accomplishment and recognition to UFIC and UF. Please join me in congratulating her on her new role.
