Dr. Leroy Hood Presents Inaugural Presidential Lecture

Leroy Hood, M.D., Ph.D., the William Gates III Professor of Biomedical Sciences, is the inaugural speaker for the Presidential Lecture Series in Molecular and Genetic Biology. Dr. Hood, who is also director of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Science and Technology Center and chairman of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, will speak at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 9, in the Communicore Building. He will speak on “Genomes and Proteomes: Leading the Revolution in Biology and Medicine in the 21st Century.”

The Presidential Lecture Series in Molecular and Genetic Biology will bring the most eminent individuals in these fields to the University of Florida to share with faculty and students the latest research, issues, and knowledge in molecular and genetic biology.

Dr. Hood has spoken widely on the ethical challenges science presents to society. He is committed to bringing hands-on, inquiry-based science to K-12 classrooms.
