New Catering Protocols, Improved System begins July 1

Beginning July 1, the University of Florida will implement the Approved Caterer Program for caterers providing food services (including alcoholic beverages, when applicable) for events on campus. The new Program will identify University-approved caterers and streamline the process of securing catering services for campus units, while enforcing existing University standards.

Over the past several months, the Office of Human Resource Services, along with other university administrative offices, has been monitoring proposed changes by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) as they relate to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the criteria used to determine eligibility for overtime.

PrintSmart program changes

Since implementing the PrintSmart program, UF has saved more than $2.4 million, through the use of 1,388 PrintSmart devices installed on campus. The goal of the program was to reduce costs for printing and optimize the print environment by standardizing equipment and, when possible, have UF staff share devices. Now, UF Procurement Services and Xerox are evaluating the efficacy and costs of the program. The following program changes are being implemented:

Ceremonies: This summer, all university-wide commencement ceremonies will be held in the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, due to on-going renovation of the O’Connell Center.

There will be five university-wide commencement ceremonies coordinated by the President’s Office — a Doctoral Degree Ceremony (Friday, August 5th, at 4:00pm) and four ceremonies for Master’s, Specialist’s, and Bachelor’s Degree candidates (Saturday, August 6th at 10:00am and 2:00pm and Sunday, August 7th at 1:00pm and 5:00pm).

All departmental requests should be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 7, 2016 and Dean’s approvals by Wednesday, September 21, 2016.
